Umm...

It’s a whole new year 01-03-09

Happy New Year to everyone!!! Yup..., it’s a whole new year. Been on a X-Files kick... I am about half way the entire series..., right now towards the end of season four. I’ll try and get in as much as I can before the end of my holidays. It’s just too short. I’ll have to thank Santa Claus for my nano..., good call.

Back to work tomorrow 01-04-09

Back to work tomorrow..., oh well... Getting back into lifting after a couple month layoff. It’s the first couple of weeks getting into it that is the hardest just because you’re not at the same level when you stopped. I know a lot of people who try too hard then it just doesn’t happen. I go really light for the first cycle then work myself up. Looking at the “List of Banished Words” by Lake Superior State..., I agree “Green” and “Carbon Footprint” are words that should be banished. I have no use for them.

Now that Tricia Walsh-Smith is one big loser. First of all this lady marries a guy who is 25 years her elder. She signs a pre-nup and once things go awry..., she takes her views to the world wide web via youtube. When she does that..., she shoots herself in the foot and cries about that. Listening to her rant..., the impression I got is this lady married the guy for his money and she wanted more. In the pre-nup, the husband agreed to pay her $750,000. That’s no small change for anyone. Why couldn’t she be happy with that..., loser... It’s kinda Phillip’s fault anyways for marrying a loser but I guess he had some idea because he got her to sign a pre-nup...

History of Christmas

The middle of winter has long been a time of celebration around the world. Centuries before the arrival of Jesus, early Europeans celebrated light and birth in the darkest days of winter. Many peoples rejoiced during the winter solstice, when the worst of the winter was behind them and they could look forward to longer days and extended hours of sunlight.

In Scandinavia, the Norse celebrated Yule from December 21, the winter solstice, through January. In recognition of the return of the sun, fathers and sons would bring home large logs, which they would set on fire. The people would feast until the log burned out, which could take as many as 12 days. The Norse believed that each spark from the fire represented a new pig or calf that would be born during the coming year.

The end of December was a perfect time for celebration in most areas of Europe. At that time of year, most cattle were slaughtered so they would not have to be fed during the winter. For many, it was the only time of year when they had a supply of fresh meat. In addition, most wine and beer made during the year was finally fermented and ready for drinking.

In Germany, people honored the pagan god Oden during the mid-winter holiday. Germans were terrified of Oden, as they believed he made nocturnal flights through the sky to observe his people, and then decide who would prosper or perish. Because of his presence, many people chose to stay inside.
